Congress Leaders Urge Climate Activist to End Hunger Strike
Meeting at Jantar Mantar
On Friday morning, Pawan Khera, the head of the Congress media department, visited Jantar Mantar in Delhi to meet with climate activist Sonam Wangchuk, who is on an indefinite hunger strike. During their discussion, Khera urged Wangchuk to consider ending his protest.
Previously, Congress General Secretary K.C. Venugopal had also appealed to Wangchuk on Thursday to conclude his hunger strike. Venugopal emphasized that the issues concerning Wangchuk are significant concerns for both Congress and other opposition parties.
The party took this opportunity to voice its political stance, reiterating its demand for the resignation of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan. Congress General Secretary Jairam Ramesh informed reporters that the party has been consistently calling for the minister's resignation over the past two months.
According to Ramesh, the demand was first raised by Rahul Gandhi, the Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha, on June 17 in Kota. He also mentioned that Gandhi would address this issue during a conversation with students in Dehradun on Friday.
