Congress Leaders Demand Clarity on Trump’s Claims Regarding India-Pakistan Peace Talks

Congress President Responds to Trump's Comments

On Tuesday, Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge dismissed claims made by former U.S. President Donald Trump regarding his role in facilitating a peace agreement between India and Pakistan. Kharge emphasized that the matter is confidential and should be discussed in an all-party meeting. He stated to reporters, 'This is a confidential issue. We will discuss everything in the all-party meeting. It is not appropriate to talk about it here.'

Opposition Calls for Special Parliamentary Session

Communist Party leader D. Raja insisted that the Prime Minister must address the questions raised by the opposition, advocating for a special session of Parliament to clarify the government's stance. He questioned how the recent terrorist attack in Pahalgam occurred and what lapses were made on India's part. Raja also sought clarity on the nature of discussions between India, Pakistan, and the U.S., stating, 'Our party is demanding a special session of Parliament; the Prime Minister should clarify the government's position.'

DMK Leader Welcomes Trump's Mediation Efforts

As discussions about reducing hostilities between India and Pakistan continue, DMK leader TKS Elangovan welcomed Trump's alleged mediation efforts, calling it a 'positive step.' However, he stressed the need for the Indian government to clarify the nature of discussions held with Trump, noting that Prime Minister Narendra Modi did not mention this in his address on Monday.

Questions Surrounding Trump's Statements

Elangovan remarked to a news outlet, 'Trump claims he discussed stopping the war with both governments, yet the Prime Minister has said nothing about it. Why did Trump make this statement? Did he communicate with the Indian government? If discussions took place, he should disclose them. Stopping a war is a commendable action by Trump.' He reiterated his party's stance against terrorism, emphasizing the need to combat it effectively, while also calling for transparency regarding the discussions between the Directors General of Military Operations (DGMO) of India and Pakistan.
