Strong Backlash Over Seat Sharing Decision

Mangaldai, March 21: The recent choice made by state Congress officials to allocate the No. 51 Dalgaon Assembly seat in Darrang district to their ally, Raijor Dal, has ignited significant discontent among party supporters.

Following the announcement, a considerable number of supporters congregated at Rajiv Bhawan in Kharupetia town. Frustrated by the decision, they vandalized hoardings, banners, and posters featuring party leaders.

Chanting slogans against prominent figures such as Gaurav Gogoi and Rockybul Hussain, the supporters accused them of having a concealed agenda aimed at protecting the political prospects of the current AIUDF MLA, Mazibur Rahman.

In response, local Congress members, from booth level to Zila Parishad, resolved to unite and endorse an Independent candidate.

As a result, all twelve individuals vying for tickets collectively agreed to nominate Ainul Haque as the sole Independent candidate representing the discontented Congress supporters from the religious minority-majority Assembly segments.
