Concerns Over Tensions in Assam
On Wednesday, Congress leader Gaurav Gogoi expressed his worries regarding the tense situation in the Karbi Anglong and West Karbi Anglong districts of Assam. He urged the state government to approach the matter with sensitivity rather than resorting to force.
In a social media post, Gogoi reported that a protester had lost their life due to police gunfire, with several others, including both demonstrators and police personnel, sustaining injuries. He noted that the situation remains precarious, leading to a suspension of mobile internet services in both Eastern and Western Karbi Anglong. Gogoi emphasized that the Congress party calls on the state government to address this issue with care. The party stands against violence as a symbol of protest in Assam, advocating for peace and urging everyone to remain calm.
Furthermore, he accused the government of neglecting the concerns of Assam's indigenous people, ethnic communities, tribes, and locals, stating, "It is evident that as long as Himanta Biswa Sarma remains Chief Minister, the issues of Assam's indigenous people, ethnic communities, tribes, and locals will always be sidelined."
