Congress Leader Supports Protests Against NEET Exam Irregularities
Congress Leader Pawan Khera Joins Protests at Jantar Mantar
On Friday, Congress leader Pawan Khera met with activist Sonam Wangchuk and members of the 'Cockroach People's Party' (CJP) at Jantar Mantar. He expressed his support for their ongoing protests regarding alleged irregularities in the NEET examination. The CJP has been protesting for over 25 days, demanding the resignation of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan due to accusations of paper leaks and other examination-related issues. Wangchuk joined the movement on June 28 and has since been on an indefinite hunger strike.
Concerns Over Wangchuk's Health
Previously, Congress had expressed concern for Wangchuk's health and urged him to end his hunger strike. Khera's visit came a day after he met with Wangchuk and other protesters at the site of demonstrations led by former Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal and Samajwadi Party leader Dimple Yadav. Yadav has called on the central government to engage in dialogue with Wangchuk and address the demands of the CJP. She also criticized the BJP-led central government for its lack of response to the alleged deaths linked to the NEET paper leak and the ongoing hunger strike.
Ongoing Demands for Minister's Resignation
Congress General Secretary K.C. Venugopal stated on Thursday that the party has been demanding Pradhan's resignation for over a month. He mentioned on social media that they understand the pain and anger Wangchuk is feeling, particularly due to the lack of accountability in the Modi government, especially concerning the failures in the examination system. Considering Wangchuk's health, they appealed for him to end his fast, assuring that their concerns align with those of other opposition parties. Venugopal emphasized that they will continue to oppose the Modi government and persist in their demand for the education minister's resignation.
