Congress Leader Questions TMC's Protests Against ED Raids in Kolkata

Congress leader Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury has raised concerns about the motivations behind the Trinamool Congress's protests against the Enforcement Directorate's raids on the I-PAC office in Kolkata. He criticized the TMC for not standing up for Bengal's migrant workers who have faced discrimination and violence. Chowdhury suggested that the protests are more about gaining electoral advantage than genuine concern. Meanwhile, several TMC MPs were detained during their demonstration outside Union Home Minister Amit Shah's office, accusing the ED of political misuse. This situation highlights the ongoing tensions between political parties in the region.

Concerns Raised Over TMC's Protests

On Friday, Congress leader Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury expressed skepticism regarding the intentions behind the protests organized by the Trinamool Congress (TMC) in response to the Enforcement Directorate's (ED) raid on the Kolkata-based I-PAC office. He pointed out that while the TMC deemed it necessary to protest during the ED's search operation, they have never demonstrated for the migrant workers from Bengal who have faced attacks under the pretext of being Bangladeshi, forcing them to flee.

In a conversation with a news agency, Chowdhury noted that some TMC MPs might still be in Delhi following the incident and felt compelled to stage a protest. He questioned the absence of any protests from the TMC, either inside or outside Parliament, when Bengal's migrant workers are targeted and forced to escape. He suggested that the current protests seem to be an attempt to gain electoral advantage, labeling them as a strategy for the TMC to secure 'electoral benefits'.

TMC MPs Detained During Protests

Earlier on Friday, several TMC MPs were detained while protesting outside the office of Union Home Minister Amit Shah in Delhi against the ED's raid on the I-PAC office in Kolkata. The MPs accused the investigative agency of being misused for political purposes. Notable TMC MPs such as Derek O'Brien, Shatabdi Roy, Mahua Moitra, and Kirti Azad participated in the demonstration, vocally opposing the minister.
