Congress Leader Questions BJP's 2019 Election Victory in Himachal Pradesh

Congress leader Pratibha Singh has raised concerns about the legitimacy of the BJP's victories in the 2019 elections in Himachal Pradesh. She highlighted the unprecedented margins of victory that have led to suspicions of electoral irregularities. Singh's comments follow Rahul Gandhi's allegations of double voting during the Karnataka assembly elections. With a history of representing the Mandi parliamentary seat, she questions how a new candidate with no political ties could win by such large margins. This discussion sheds light on the ongoing debates surrounding election integrity in the region.

Congress Leader Questions BJP's 2019 Election Victory in Himachal Pradesh

Concerns Raised Over BJP's 2019 Election Results

On Sunday, Congress leader Pratibha Singh expressed her doubts regarding the unprecedented victory margins of all four BJP candidates in the 2019 general elections from Himachal Pradesh.

Her remarks came in the context of Rahul Gandhi's recent claims about double voting during the Karnataka assembly elections, along with allegations that the Election Commission favored the BJP.

Pratibha Singh, who heads the Himachal Pradesh Congress Committee, stated to reporters, 'We have never witnessed such a massive victory in Himachal Pradesh before 2019, and the significant margins raise suspicions of irregularities.'

In the 2019 Lok Sabha elections, the vote margins between the winners and Congress candidates ranged from 327,000 to 477,000 votes.

Having represented the Mandi parliamentary seat three times—from 2004 to 2009, 2013 to 2014, and 2021 to 2024—Pratibha Singh remarked, 'I have represented the Mandi seat and understand how the voter base can fluctuate. When a new face with no political background wins by such large margins in 2024, it raises questions.'

In the last Lok Sabha elections, BJP candidate Kangana Ranaut defeated Pratibha's son, Vikramaditya Singh, the current state Public Works Minister, by a margin of 74,755 votes in the Mandi constituency.
