Congress Leader Emphasizes Respect for Religion in Politics During Ayodhya Visit

Dignity of Faith in Politics

On Thursday, senior Congress leader Digvijay Singh stated that individuals participate in religious events only when they feel a divine call. He emphasized that the Congress party does not exploit religion for political or commercial purposes. Singh visited the Hanumangarhi temple in Ayodhya this morning to offer prayers and reflect on his spiritual journey. He remarked, "I came here when I received the 'call'... It is impossible to visit Hanuman Ji without first paying respects to Lord Ram. Every Congress member follows the path of 'religion' according to their faith. We do not misuse 'religion' for business or politics. There should be no political exploitation of religion, nor should it be used for commercial gain."

Comments on Rahul Gandhi's Participation

When asked about Rahul Gandhi, Singh mentioned that he would attend religious events when he feels the call to do so, indicating that Gandhi will participate in such occasions only when he is spiritually inclined. Singh's remarks come amid ongoing discussions about the relationship between religion and politics, highlighting Congress's declared stance of respecting personal faith while opposing the political or commercial exploitation of religious sentiments.

Ayodhya Prepares for Ram Navami Celebrations

In a separate development, Ayodhya is fully prepared for the upcoming Ram Navami celebrations. As part of a special initiative, the Doordarshan network will broadcast the Ram Navami program live, allowing devotees visiting Ayodhya to witness the festivities and enabling people across the country to partake in this sacred occasion. Hindus celebrate four Navratris throughout the year, but only two—Chaitra Navratri and Sharadiya Navratri—are widely observed, coinciding with seasonal changes. In India, Navratri is celebrated in various forms and traditions.

Significance of the Nine-Day Festival

This nine-day festival, known as Ram Navratri, culminates on Ram Navami, which marks the birthday of Lord Ram. Throughout the festival, each of the nine days is dedicated to the nine incarnations of the Goddess. This celebration is observed with great reverence across India, involving rituals and prayers to honor the different forms of the Goddess.
