Congress Leader Demands Action Against Police Over Allegations Against Party President
Allegations Against Police in Madhya Pradesh
Senior Congress leader Digvijay Singh has accused the officer in charge of the Mungawali police station of ignoring regulations, demanding their removal in light of a case filed against party president Jitu Patwari.
On Tuesday, following a Congress 'Nyay Satyagraha' event, Singh visited the Moodra Badwah village in the Mungawali area. Last month, the Mungawali police registered a case against Patwari concerning an incident involving a young man from the Lodhi community who was reportedly forced to consume feces. This complaint was lodged by the victim himself.
However, the police dismissed the allegations of forced consumption, instead accusing Patwari of sharing a video related to the young man on social media, which allegedly incited communal discord and disrupted public peace.
Singh, a former Chief Minister, claimed that during his visit to Moodra, he learned that two individuals, Gajraj Lodhi and Raghuraj Lodhi, had been missing for several days. He subsequently filed a written complaint regarding their disappearance at the Mungawali police station.
In a social media post on Wednesday, he stated, 'Now the police are saying they will investigate before filing a missing person's report. Our question is, did the police conduct any investigation before filing a case against our president? Clearly, they did not.'
Singh emphasized that government employees must adhere to the Constitution and follow the law. He insisted that action should be taken against the officer in charge of the Mungawali police station for operating outside legal protocols and called for their immediate removal.
The Rajya Sabha member also remarked that this is the first instance in his political career where the police have acted as the complainant against Patwari without any actual complainant present. He expressed confusion over the legal sections under which the police have charged Patwari.
