Congress Leader's Criticism of Modi's Diplomacy

Senior Congress figure Jairam Ramesh targeted the Modi administration on Saturday, accusing it of a "failure" in Indian diplomacy and asserting that Prime Minister Modi's friendship with former U.S. President Donald Trump has proven to be superficial. Ramesh, who is the communication in-charge for the Congress party, expressed on social media that India has already paid a heavy price for Modi's endorsement of China on June 19, 2020. He emphasized that the much-publicized friendship with Trump has now been revealed as hollow.

Ramesh pointed out that the severe shortcomings of Indian diplomacy, particularly over the last two months, are highlighted by four key facts. These facts contradict the grand claims made by the Prime Minister and his supporters. Since May 10, 2025, Trump has claimed 25 times that he personally intervened to halt Operation Sindoor, threatening both India and Pakistan with the loss of trade agreements if they did not cease hostilities.

He further noted that on June 10, 2025, General Michael Kurilla, head of the powerful U.S. Central Command, referred to Pakistan as an unprecedented partner in combating terrorism. In response to Trump's meeting with Pakistani Army Chief Field Marshal Asim Munir at the White House, Ramesh remarked that Munir had previously made inflammatory comments that contributed to the backdrop of the Pulwama terrorist attack.

Ramesh also mentioned that on June 18, 2025, Trump hosted an unprecedented lunch meeting with Munir at the White House. Just two months prior, Munir's provocative remarks had set the stage for the brutal terrorist attacks in Pulwama on April 22, 2025. He added that on July 25, 2025, U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio met with Pakistan's Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar, thanking him for Pakistan's role in combating terrorism and maintaining regional stability.
