Congress's Stance on Kerala Elections
KC Venugopal, a Congress MP and AICC General Secretary, expressed strong criticism of the alliance between the Left Democratic Front (LDF) and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in Kerala. He stated on Friday that he believes this coalition will not secure any seats in the upcoming Kerala Assembly elections. Venugopal asserted that the Congress and the United Democratic Front (UDF) are poised for victory, as the people of Kerala are eager for a change in leadership after a decade under Pinarayi Vijayan.
In a conversation with a news outlet, Venugopal described the partnership between the two parties as an unholy alliance. He remarked that while they might think they can win one or two seats, that is unlikely to happen. He suggested that winning even a single seat in the Kerala Assembly could be a mere dream for them, as the electorate will not accept this coalition, regardless of their efforts.
He further elaborated that their hopes are increasing daily, with public sentiment leaning towards the Congress and UDF. Venugopal noted that the overall mood in Kerala is one of change, with a clear demand for a new government. He expressed confidence in their ability to win, stating that the past ten years under the Pinarayi government have been the worst for the people of Kerala. He believes that on April 9, the electorate will demonstrate their sentiments.
Regarding the candidate for Chief Minister, Venugopal mentioned that the party has its own process for selecting leadership. After the elections, the party leadership will engage with the people of Kerala to make a decision. The Kerala Assembly elections are scheduled for April 9, with the counting of votes set for May 4. The current assembly's term will conclude on May 23.
