Congress Leader Calls for Clarity on Rising Prices Amid Global Conflicts

In a recent statement, Congress leader Sachin Pilot has called on the Indian government to provide clarity on the rising prices of domestic goods and the country's position regarding escalating global conflicts in West Asia. His remarks come in response to Prime Minister Modi's appeals aimed at addressing the domestic impact of these conflicts. Pilot emphasized the importance of discussing such critical issues within Parliament rather than during election campaigns. Additionally, he raised concerns about the government's transparency, suggesting that information may be withheld from the public. Meanwhile, Rahul Gandhi criticized the Prime Minister's appeals, framing them as evidence of governmental failure. Modi, however, defended his stance as part of efforts for economic resilience amidst global uncertainties.

Demand for Transparency on Economic Issues

Senior Congress leader Sachin Pilot urged the central government on Monday to provide comprehensive information to Parliament regarding India's stance on the escalating global conflicts in West Asia and the recent surge in domestic commodity prices. His remarks were a direct response to Prime Minister Narendra Modi's seven appeals aimed at mitigating the domestic impact of the West Asian conflict. Pilot emphasized that discussions on matters related to international security and the national economy should take place within the esteemed framework of Parliament rather than during election campaigns. Speaking to a news outlet, he stated, 'What the Prime Minister is saying at public rallies should be communicated to the entire Parliament to clarify our position on the ongoing war and global situation. Our stance needs to be disclosed. Prices have risen post-elections, and we need to explain our position with data. Oil prices are also stable, so what exactly is happening?'

Concerns Over Government Transparency

Pilot further accused the government of potentially withholding information from the public, particularly in light of the 'precautions' suggested by the Prime Minister. He questioned, 'Is there an attempt to conceal something? A list of suggestions for precautions has been provided. The truth should be made known to everyone.' Meanwhile, Rahul Gandhi, the leader of the opposition in the Lok Sabha, criticized the Prime Minister's appeals, labeling them as evidence of failure rather than guidance. In a post on social media, Gandhi accused the government of trying to evade accountability for inflation and economic pressures by shifting the responsibility onto citizens.

Prime Minister's Perspective on Economic Resilience

However, Prime Minister Modi characterized these appeals as part of broader efforts towards 'economic self-defense' and responsible patriotism amid global uncertainty and rising geopolitical tensions. His comments came a day after addressing a gathering in Secunderabad, where he urged citizens to reduce reliance on imports and adopt responsible consumption habits to strengthen the economy amidst disruptions in global supply chains and rising costs due to international conflicts. The Prime Minister called on the public to lower their consumption of cooking oil, utilize public transport, prioritize carpooling, embrace electric vehicles, and shift towards natural farming practices to alleviate the burden of imports and conserve foreign currency.
