Congress Leader Accuses ED of Political Bias in Raids
Congress leader Sandeep Dikshit has accused the Enforcement Directorate (ED) of conducting politically motivated raids to benefit the BJP. His comments follow a controversial search operation in Kolkata targeting Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, who claims the agency seized crucial party documents. Allegations Against the Enforcement Directorate
On Friday, Congress leader Sandeep Dikshit claimed that the Enforcement Directorate (ED) conducts raids to benefit the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) politically, asserting that the agency has failed to substantiate any of its cases. He further stated that the ED's actions are part of the ruling BJP's political strategy. In an interview, Dikshit remarked that the ED has yet to prove a single case, emphasizing that its raids are primarily aimed at providing political advantages to the BJP. This is all part of the political game.
Context of the Allegations
Dikshit's remarks come in the wake of the ED's ongoing search operation in Kolkata, targeting West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee. The agency allegedly entered the residence of Pratik Jain, director of the prominent political consulting group I-PAC, seizing crucial evidence, including physical documents and electronic devices. According to a statement from the ED, their team was conducting the search in a peaceful and professional manner until a large number of police officers arrived with the Chief Minister.
Mamata Banerjee's Response
In response, Mamata Banerjee accused the central agency of confiscating party-related materials, including hard drives, candidate lists, and strategic documents, while also alleging that Amit Shah is misusing central agencies. Speaking to reporters, she questioned whether it is the ED's duty to seize her party's hard drives and candidate lists, labeling the Home Minister as a deceitful figure who is taking away all her party's documents without being able to protect the country.
A Call for Democratic Engagement
Challenging the BJP and Shah directly, the Chief Minister urged them to come to West Bengal and engage in a democratic contest. She stated that if Amit Shah wants to win Bengal, he should do so through fair elections. Banerjee highlighted the nature of the operation, revealing that at 6:00 AM, the ED seized party data, laptops, strategies, and mobile phones, claiming that their forensic experts transferred all the data. She expressed her belief that such actions constitute a crime.
