Intensive Campaign Launched in Bongaigaon

Congress press meet in Bongaigaon

BONGAIGAON, Oct 26: On Sunday, Prithviraj Sathe, secretary of the All India Congress Committee (AICC), initiated a vigorous campaign in Bongaigaon district targeting Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar and the Modi administration. During a press conference at Rajiv Bhawan, Sathe accused the BJP of manipulating electoral outcomes with the assistance of CEC Gyanesh Kumar. He claimed that approximately 13 crore voters have been disenfranchised due to the Special Intensive Revision of electoral rolls conducted by the Election Commission of India, attributing this issue to the ruling BJP.

“Our nationwide protest will persist until CEC Gyanesh Kumar resigns,” Sathe declared.

He urged all political factions and organizations to participate in a significant demonstration led by the Congress party, scheduled for November 1 at Ramlila Maidan in Delhi. Sathe emphasized that this protest transcends party lines, representing the citizens and the essence of democracy, dubbing the movement against the BJP and CEC as a ‘second freedom struggle’.

When questioned about the party's stance on the CJP during the media session, Sathe refrained from providing a definitive response. He also chose not to address the electoral rolls in Assam or the elections conducted in the state.

As part of their protest efforts, Congress activists burned effigies of CEC Gyanesh Kumar at Chipansila and Lengtisinga market following public gatherings. During the press conference in Bongaigaon, Sathe, who serves as co-in-charge of the APCC, was accompanied by Assam Pradesh Congress Committee general secretary Shantanu Sarma and Bongaigaon district president Girish Barua.
