Congress Files Complaint Against Suren Daimari After Election Withdrawal
Complaint Filed by Congress Party
Former Congress candidate for Udalguri, Suren Daimari
GUWAHATI, April 10: On Thursday, the Congress party took action by filing a police complaint against Suren Daimari, their candidate for the Udalguri constituency, who recently withdrew from the Assembly election and left the party.
Ramanna Baruah, the general secretary (organization) of the Assam Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC), submitted the complaint at the Bhangagarh Police Station.
In the complaint, Baruah detailed that Daimari had sought a Congress ticket to run for the Assembly elections from the 46 Udalguri LAC, which was granted by the party.
“Following the approval, he filed his nomination, which was accepted by the Election Commission. The Indian National Congress subsequently transferred Rs 30 lakh to him via RTGS for campaign expenses,” Baruah noted.
He further mentioned that media reports indicated Daimari resigned from the Congress party effective April 8.
“He has publicly declared through various media outlets that he is no longer a candidate for the Assembly election 2026, labeling the Congress party as a ‘Gaddar party’ and a ‘Probonchokor party’,” Baruah added.
These statements have allegedly damaged the reputation of the Congress party. The actions of Suren Daimari, as outlined, may violate several sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). I urge your honor to investigate this matter, register a case under BNS Sections 314, 316, 318, and 356, along with any other relevant sections, and take necessary actions against Suren Daimari,” Baruah concluded in his complaint.
