New Crisis Arises Within Congress

A recent social media post by senior Congress leader Digvijaya Singh has sparked a fresh crisis within the party. On Saturday, Singh praised the operational methods of the BJP and RSS, which has been interpreted as a source of internal discord and dissatisfaction among party members.

The Controversial Post

Singh shared a photo on social media showing Prime Minister Narendra Modi sitting on the floor next to senior BJP leader Lal Krishna Advani. Accompanying the image, he remarked that grassroots workers in the BJP and RSS have opportunities to ascend to top positions, such as Chief Minister and Prime Minister.

Singh's Clarification Amidst Backlash

As the controversy escalated, Singh attempted to clarify that he is a staunch opponent of the RSS ideology. However, by that time, a debate had already ignited within the party.

Kharge's Response: 'Our Backbone is Strong'

Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge indirectly targeted Singh without naming him, stating, 'Our strength may wane, but our backbone is not weak. We do not seek votes in the name of religion.' He further criticized RSS leaders for previously rejecting the tricolor and now trampling on people's rights.

Diverse Opinions Within Congress

Other prominent party leaders have expressed varying views on the matter. Pawan Khera outright dismissed Singh's analysis, asserting that supporters of Nathuram Godse can never be proponents of Gandhi. Meanwhile, Supriya Shrinate firmly stated that Congress has nothing to learn from organizations like the RSS. In contrast, Sachin Pilot intervened, emphasizing that the Congress remains united, allowing freedom of expression within the party, with the sole aim of strengthening Kharge and Rahul Gandhi.

Salman Khurshid also defended Singh, suggesting that his comments were merely a practical assessment of what the RSS has achieved, not a sign of disloyalty to party leadership.
