Congress Calls for Accountability in CBSE Examination Issues

On Monday, Congress Rajya Sabha MP Jairam Ramesh urged the government to take responsibility for alleged irregularities in the evaluation of Class 12 answer sheets by the CBSE, demanding the resignation of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan. Ramesh questioned Prime Minister Modi on why the minister's "incompetence" has been tolerated for such an extended period. He expressed concerns on social media, stating that the introduction of the On-Screen Marking (OSM) system for Class 12 board exams has jeopardized the academic futures of millions of students across the nation.

Significant Drop in Pass Percentage Raises Concerns

According to the party leader, there has been an unprecedented 3% decline in the pass percentage of students. He attributed this situation to irregularities associated with the OSM system. Ramesh highlighted on social media that the pass percentage for Class 12 has dropped from 88% to 85%, citing issues such as unclear and illegible answer sheets, incorrect marking, misallocation of answer sheets to students, delayed payments, and arbitrary demands for re-evaluation fees.

Criticism of the Government's Preparedness

He criticized the government for allegedly being unprepared to implement the new system and condemned the education minister for presenting himself as a savior by involving IIT Kanpur to resolve these technical issues. Ramesh raised critical questions about why these problems were not anticipated earlier and why CBSE and the ministry did not plan carefully before adopting the OSM system. He also questioned the delay in the minister's response to these pressing issues.

Reiteration of Resignation Demand

The Congress MP reiterated his call for the resignation of Minister Dharmendra Pradhan, questioning the Prime Minister on allowing such incompetence to persist. He stated that the minister should resign for the sake of the country, and the Prime Minister must explain why this minister, who is openly jeopardizing the future of students in India due to his incompetence, has remained in office for so long.
