Congress Takes a Stand on Water Pollution in Indore
On Thursday, Congress leader Pawan Khera emphasized the party's commitment to ensuring accountability regarding the water pollution incident in Bhagirathpura, Indore. Speaking at a press conference in the national capital, Khera stated that the state unit has been actively protesting on the streets about this issue and is determined to raise awareness. He assured that they will hold those responsible accountable and work to prevent such occurrences in the future.
This statement comes in light of the severe water pollution incident in Bhagirathpura, which has drawn widespread criticism due to the loss of several lives and the impact on numerous families. Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Mohan Yadav announced financial assistance of ₹2 lakh for the families of the deceased and free medical treatment for all affected individuals. Congress leaders have strongly criticized the state BJP government, claiming that this incident has tarnished Indore's reputation, which was once celebrated for its cleanliness and ranked first nationwide.
While addressing reporters, Jitu Patwari remarked that the death toll is not limited to just 17 individuals, but many more have suffered. He lamented that Indore, previously recognized for its cleanliness and global acclaim, has now been marred by this tragedy. He held the mayoral council, the Mohan Yadav government, and its ministers accountable for damaging the city's image, stating that Indore was once synonymous with cleanliness but is now associated with poison.
Congress leader Umang Singhhar accused the state government of insensitivity, asserting that the opposition will raise this issue in the upcoming assembly session. Singhhar expressed his belief that the manner in which this incident unfolded and the government's lack of sensitivity is undoubtedly a stain on Indore. He urged the residents to be cautious, as their areas also receive water through pipelines, warning that contaminated water like that from Bhagirathpura could reach them as well. He assured that they will thoroughly investigate the facts of this case and question the government in the upcoming assembly session about why the people of Indore should suffer due to the government's mistakes.
