Congress Critiques Modi's Diplomacy Amid US-Iran Ceasefire

The Congress party has raised concerns about Prime Minister Narendra Modi's diplomatic approach following Pakistan's involvement in the recent US-Iran ceasefire. Jairam Ramesh criticized Modi's silence on Israel's actions and suggested that his personalized diplomacy has been exposed as ineffective. The party argues that Modi's strategy to isolate Pakistan has failed, contrasting it with the successful efforts of former PM Manmohan Singh. As the world cautiously welcomes the ceasefire, Congress leaders emphasize the need for a more robust and principled foreign policy.

New Delhi, Apr 8: The Congress party has criticized the central government, asserting that Pakistan's involvement in facilitating the ceasefire between the US and Iran represents a significant blow to Prime Minister Narendra Modi's personalized approach to diplomacy. The party claims that this situation has exposed Modi's self-proclaimed status as a global leader.

According to Congress, Modi's inaction regarding Israel's aggressive actions and the inappropriate remarks from his ally in the White House reflects his cowardice.

Jairam Ramesh, the Congress general secretary responsible for communications, noted that the recent two-week ceasefire in the West Asia conflict is being cautiously welcomed worldwide.

Ramesh emphasized that Pakistan's role in achieving this ceasefire undermines Modi's diplomatic efforts, which he claims have failed to isolate Pakistan for its support of terrorism in Jammu and Kashmir, unlike the successful strategies employed by former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh after the Mumbai attacks.

He pointed out that a nation with a struggling economy and reliant on foreign aid has managed to influence such significant diplomatic outcomes, raising questions about Modi's engagement strategies.

Ramesh remarked, "There is a noticeable sense of relief globally. The External Affairs Minister had previously dismissed Pakistan, but now Modi's self-styled image as a global leader has been thoroughly challenged, with his bravado diminished."

He also criticized Modi for remaining silent on Israel's actions in Gaza and its expansionist policies in the West Bank, stating that the conflict escalated shortly after Modi's much-publicized visit to Israel, which he believes has tarnished India's international reputation.

Earlier, Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi Vadra condemned the language used by Western powers regarding the Iran conflict, suggesting that the world is witnessing the erosion of moral authority from the West.

In a related development, US President Donald Trump has retracted his threats of military action against Iran, leading to an agreement for a two-week ceasefire that includes the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz.
