Congress Leader Questions Modi's Future After Bhagwat's Remarks
Jairam Ramesh, a Congress MP in the Rajya Sabha, has criticized Prime Minister Narendra Modi following comments made by RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat. Bhagwat suggested that leaders should consider stepping down at the age of 75 to make way for new leadership. In a post on X, Ramesh asserted that Bhagwat's statement serves as an indirect message to Modi, who will turn 75 later this year.
Ramesh expressed his thoughts on X, stating, 'Poor award-winning Prime Minister! What a homecoming this is—upon returning, he was reminded by the RSS chief that he will be 75 on September 17, 2025. However, the Prime Minister could also remind Bhagwat that he too will reach 75 on September 11, 2025! A shot at two targets!' This comment follows Bhagwat's remarks made during an event in Nagpur, where he indicated that turning 75 should prompt individuals to step aside for others.
The RSS chief's comments have led opposition leaders to question the implications for Prime Minister Modi, who shares the same milestone birthday this September. Just a day prior, Ramesh referred to Modi as the 'super premium frequent flyer PM' upon his return from a five-nation tour that took place from July 2 to July 9. He welcomed back the Prime Minister, noting that he is expected to stay in India for nearly three weeks before flying again. Ramesh urged Modi to focus on pressing national issues, starting with the Congress's major demand for the Prime Minister to visit Manipur. He also requested that Modi address concerns related to the recent terrorist attack in Pahalgam and the bridge collapse in Vadodara.
