Congress Criticizes Modi Government's Impact on Democracy and Economy
Congress Accuses Modi Government of Undermining Democracy
On Monday, the Congress party expressed that the Modi administration has severely impacted the nation's democracy, economy, and social fabric over the past 11 years. Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge took to social media to claim that the government has smeared every page of the Constitution with 'dictatorial ink' during this period.

Kharge further alleged that the BJP and RSS have weakened every constitutional institution, attacking their autonomy. He pointed out that the government has resorted to undermining democracy by toppling governments through backdoor means and enforcing a one-party rule. He noted that the rights of states have been overlooked, leading to a weakened federal structure. Kharge emphasized that there is a persistent attempt to spread an atmosphere of hatred, intimidation, and fear in society, with the exploitation of Dalits, tribals, backward classes, minorities, and weaker sections on the rise. He stated that there is a conspiracy to deprive these groups of their reservation and equality rights, citing the ongoing violence in Manipur as a significant indicator of the BJP's administrative failures.
The Congress leader also criticized the BJP-RSS for reducing the GDP growth rate to 5-6%, a stark contrast to the average of 8% during the UPA regime. Instead of creating 20 million jobs annually as promised, the youth have lost millions of opportunities. He highlighted that inflation has led to the lowest savings for the public in 50 years, while economic inequality has reached its highest in a century. He condemned the government's demonetization, flawed GST implementation, unplanned lockdowns, and the hammering of the unorganized sector, which he claims have ruined millions' futures.

Kharge asserted that initiatives like Make in India, Startup India, Stand Up India, Digital India, Namami Gange, and the 100 Smart Cities project have all failed. He accused the government of dismantling the railways and merely cutting ribbons on infrastructure projects initiated by the Congress-UPA. He concluded that the past 11 years have been wasted in spreading dictatorial ink across every page of the Constitution. In response, the BJP praised Prime Minister Modi's leadership over the past 11 years, with Modi asserting that under his guidance, India has not only become one of the fastest-growing major economies but also a leading global voice on critical issues like climate action and digital innovation.
