Congress Criticizes LPG Price Hike Amid Minister's Assurance

Congress Leader Slams LPG Price Increase

On Saturday, Pawan Khera, the head of the Congress media and publicity department, strongly criticized Petroleum and Natural Gas Minister Hardeep Singh Puri regarding the recent increase in LPG cylinder prices. Starting March 7, the cost of a 14.2 kg domestic cooking gas cylinder has risen by ₹60, while the price of a 19 kg commercial LPG cylinder has increased by ₹115.

Khera took to Facebook to express his discontent, referencing Puri's earlier statement: 'Our priority is to ensure affordable and sustainable fuel availability for our citizens, and we are doing this effectively.' He pointed out the contradiction, stating that just a day later, the prices of domestic LPG rose by ₹60 and commercial cylinders by ₹115. Khera urged the public not to trust Puri's claims, which came in response to the minister's assertion that there is no energy shortage in India despite ongoing conflicts in West Asia.

On Friday, the central minister posted on X, emphasizing the government's commitment to providing affordable and sustainable fuel, assuring that there is no energy crisis in India. Meanwhile, sources indicate that the price of a 14.2 kg domestic LPG cylinder in Delhi has surged from ₹853 to ₹913. In Mumbai, the new rate has increased from ₹852.50 to ₹912.50, while Kolkata's price has risen from ₹879 to ₹879.30, and Chennai's from ₹868.50 to ₹928.50. These revised rates are effective immediately.

This price hike also affects commercial LPG cylinders. In Delhi, the cost of a 19 kg commercial cylinder has jumped from ₹1768.50 to ₹1883. In Mumbai, it has increased from ₹1720.50 to ₹1835, while Kolkata's price has risen from ₹1875.50 to ₹1990, and in Chennai, it has gone up from ₹1929 to ₹2043.50. Prior to this, the price of domestic LPG cylinders had remained unchanged since April 2025, when the non-subsidized rate in Delhi was ₹853. This latest adjustment represents a significant increase for both domestic consumers and commercial users who rely on LPG for their daily operations.
