Congress Criticizes Defense Minister for Alleged Pakistan Favoritism at SCO Meeting
Congress Accuses Defense Minister of Favoring Pakistan
The Congress party claimed on Wednesday that Defense Minister Rajnath Singh provided a disgraceful clean chit to Pakistan regarding terrorism during the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) conference. They argue that this move aligns with Prime Minister Narendra Modi's strategy to appease the United States while maintaining a balanced submission to China.
Party General Secretary Jairam Ramesh further asserted that this clean chit mirrors the one Modi issued to Beijing during the India-China tensions in June 2020.
On Tuesday, Singh stated that 'Operation Sindoor' showcased India's 'determination' to ensure that 'terrorism's epicenters will no longer escape just punishment.' He also emphasized at the SCO meeting that terrorism does not have a nationality or religion, and that no grievance, whether real or imagined, should serve as an excuse for terrorism and human suffering.
Ramesh took to social media platform X to express his concerns, stating, 'Yesterday, the Defense Minister clearly gave Pakistan a disgraceful clean chit under the explicit approval and direction of Prime Minister Modi in Bishkek.'
He raised several questions: 'Isn't Pakistan the epicenter of terrorism? Are there not terrorist camps in Pakistan targeting India? Is there not a promotion of anti-India sentiment in Pakistan? Did not terrorists linked to Pakistan conspire and execute the attacks in Mumbai and Pahalgam?' Ramesh concluded that this new stance towards Pakistan is part of Modi's policy to please the U.S. while balancing submission to China. He remarked that the Defense Minister's shocking statements are as anti-national as the bizarre clean chit given to China on June 19, 2020.'
