Congress Leader Demands Accountability for Water Crisis

The President of the Madhya Pradesh Congress, Jitu Patwari, sharply criticized the state government led by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Monday regarding the water contamination incident in Bhagirathpura, Indore. He claimed that this incident has resulted in the deaths of over 30 individuals and called for legal action against those responsible.

Patwari also demanded the resignation of local MLA and state cabinet minister Kailash Vijayvargiya, accusing Chief Minister Mohan Yadav of ruining Indore.

He stated that the actual death toll is not 17, but rather exceeds 30. Patwari alleged that BJP and local authorities are preventing the media from reporting on the situation. He insisted that a thorough survey of every household would reveal the true number of fatalities. He emphasized that Kailash Vijayvargiya should be removed from his position, and FIRs should be filed against the mayor and relevant officials. According to Patwari, Chief Minister Yadav has failed to fulfill his duties as the minister in charge of Indore and has contributed to the city's decline. He expressed confidence that the people of Indore would seek justice for these deaths.

Meanwhile, Dr. Madhav Prasad Hasni, the Chief Medical and Health Officer (CMHO) of Indore, reported that as of January 4, the official death toll stands at six. However, a committee has been formed to review the deaths, and its report is expected by this evening, which will provide a clearer picture of the situation. When asked about the official figures, Dr. Hasni mentioned that the committee is analyzing the data and will provide updates after reviewing all relevant documents.

The water contamination incident in Bhagirathpura has sparked widespread criticism due to the loss of lives and the impact on numerous families. In response, Chief Minister Mohan Yadav announced financial assistance of 200,000 rupees for the families of the deceased and free medical treatment for all affected individuals.
