Congress Criticizes Assam Government Over Jal Jeevan Mission Failures
Gaurav Gogoi's Strong Critique of the BJP Government
Jorhat, Dec 19: In light of significant shortcomings associated with the Jal Jeevan Mission, Gaurav Gogoi, the president of the Assam Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC), has launched a fierce critique of the ruling BJP government.
Gogoi has accused the administration of both mismanagement and corruption regarding the execution of this flagship drinking water initiative.
During a public gathering and protest held at 2 No. Dahodhiya, organized by the North West Jorhat (Dhekorgora) Block Congress Committee, he claimed that Assam is the second-highest state in the nation for scams related to the Jal Jeevan Mission.
“The minister overseeing the Jal Jeevan Mission is closely associated with the Chief Minister, which has allowed corruption to thrive while the public suffers,” Gogoi stated, emphasizing that the scheme has not fulfilled its intended benefits.
To amplify their campaign, Gogoi announced that the Congress party would initiate a statewide sticker campaign at sites where the Jal Jeevan Mission has not succeeded.
“We will place stickers in areas where the Jal Jeevan Mission has failed, compelling both the central and state governments to conduct thorough inspections,” he declared.
He linked the alleged shortcomings of the initiative to broader governance issues, asserting that public dissatisfaction over corruption and inefficiency will be evident in the forthcoming Assembly elections.
“The citizens of Assam are tired of an ohongkari roja (arrogant ruler). They have resolved that Himanta Biswa Sarma should not continue as Chief Minister for another decade,” Gogoi remarked.
Positioning Congress as a viable alternative, he promised that the party would serve the people if elected.
“The populace desires a government that listens and acts in their interest. A Congress-led administration will prioritize accountability and be people-focused,” he added.
Gogoi also addressed Sarma’s recent comments regarding the opening of files related to the SIT chargesheet in the Zubeen Garg death case, dismissing them as a political threat stemming from fear of losing power.
“I am unfazed by such threats. The Chief Minister is anxious because he knows he will not be re-elected. He can say whatever he wishes,” he stated.
This protest signifies Congress’ renewed effort to highlight the Jal Jeevan Mission as a pivotal electoral issue, indicating a more aggressive campaign against the state government as the Assembly elections approach next year.
