Congress Leaders Express Optimism for Assam Elections
On Saturday, Jitendra Singh, the Congress in-charge for Assam elections, expressed strong confidence in the party's success in the upcoming state assembly elections. He attributed this optimism to a shift in public trust, particularly concerning issues like corruption and mafia rule. Speaking to a news outlet, Singh dismissed the predictions made by exit polls as consistently inaccurate. He emphasized that it is a very encouraging sign that the party will win the elections based on the people's trust. He pointed out that the public is facing numerous challenges, including corruption and mafia governance, and reiterated that the exit polls are completely wrong. He recalled that while the polls had predicted over 400 seats for the BJP in the Lok Sabha, the reality was that they could not secure even 250 seats.
Election Commission Criticized for Bias
Singh also criticized the Election Commission regarding the re-polling in West Bengal, alleging a lack of trust in the institution and claiming it favors the ruling BJP. He stated that there is a general absence of confidence not only among political parties but also within the Election Commission itself, suggesting that it operates as an extension of the BJP. He assured that the former Chief Minister is present, and they will monitor the situation to ensure fair counting.
Congress leader Bhupesh Baghel also commented on the elections, noting that party leaders are conducting organizational meetings with candidates and senior leadership. Baghel mentioned that there is a meeting with D.K. Shivakumar and state leadership regarding their candidates. He dismissed the exit polls as repetitive and unreliable, asserting that they merely replicate previous predictions and have never proven accurate. Regarding the re-polling in West Bengal, Baghel emphasized that the party has remained vigilant throughout the process, stating, 'We have been cautious from the beginning, which is why no irregularities occurred.'
D.K. Shivakumar's Commitment to Protect Congress Legislators
Earlier on Saturday, Karnataka's Deputy Chief Minister and Congress leader D.K. Shivakumar announced his presence in Assam to protect legislators from potential defection following the assembly election results on May 4. Shivakumar informed a news outlet in Guwahati that he is there to safeguard his legislators, guide them, and assist the party. He assured that they are safe today and tomorrow.
