Congress Celebrates Victory Day
On Tuesday, the Congress party marked Victory Day by highlighting the triumph of the 1971 war as a testament to the valor of the Indian Army and the visionary leadership of former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi. Party President Mallikarjun Kharge and former President Rahul Gandhi paid tribute to the bravery and sacrifices of Indian soldiers.
In a post on social media, Kharge stated, "On this day in 1971, history was made when India's brave armed forces decisively defeated Pakistan, granting freedom to Bangladesh and reshaping the world map."

He further remarked that under Indira Gandhi's bold and determined leadership, this victory became a significant example of humanity and justice. Kharge expressed, "We pay our deepest respects to the unique courage, valor, and sacrifices of the Indian military and liberation forces. The dedication and sacrifice of these brave sons of Mother India will always be remembered by a grateful nation."
Rahul Gandhi also shared a post on social media, stating, "On Victory Day, I salute the heroes of our armed forces who made history with their bravery, dedication, and unwavering resolve while defending India's borders during the 1971 war." He added, "Their indomitable courage, struggle, and ultimate sacrifice will always inspire every Indian."

Victory Day is celebrated annually on December 16, honoring the soldiers who fought in the India-Pakistan war of 1971, which concluded with the surrender of the Pakistani army. Under the command of General A. A. K. Niazi, approximately 93,000 Pakistani soldiers laid down their arms, marking one of the largest surrenders by an army since World War II.
