Congress Celebrates 140th Foundation Day with Calls for Strengthening the Organization
Strengthening the Party's Foundation
During the celebration of the Congress party's 140th foundation day at its headquarters on Sunday, Shashi Tharoor expressed his support for his colleague Digvijay Singh's views, emphasizing the need to fortify the organization. Tharoor was seated next to Singh at the Indira Bhawan headquarters during the event.
Singh stirred political discussions on Saturday by praising the organizational strength of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). He shared an old photograph of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, illustrating how a grassroots worker learned from his leaders, eventually becoming a Chief Minister and then a Prime Minister.
He also raised the issue of strengthening the Congress organization at the grassroots level, stating that it is essential to compete with and displace the ruling BJP.
When asked for his thoughts on Singh's comments the following day, Tharoor affirmed, 'There is no doubt that the organization needs to be strengthened.' He also mentioned that he and Singh frequently discuss such matters, highlighting their friendship.
Tharoor further noted, 'Today marks the 140th foundation day of the Congress. It is a significant occasion for the party, a day to reflect on our glorious history and the contributions made to the nation.'
In a post on the social media platform 'X', he stated, 'Today is the 140th anniversary of the Indian National Congress, the organization that played a pivotal role in leading the struggle for India's independence from British rule.'
He added, 'From its first session in 1885 to the present day, the Congress party has been a strong foundation for the country's democratic journey and political development. This occasion was celebrated at Indira Bhawan with seriousness and mutual goodwill.'
