Formation of Assam State Election Committee
The Congress party has officially sanctioned the establishment of the Assam Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC) State Election Committee, with Gaurav Gogoi, a Congress MP, appointed as its chairperson. In a letter dated February 3, Congress MP K.C. Venugopal announced that the party president has granted immediate approval for the formation of this committee.
The letter details that Gaurav Gogoi will lead the committee, alongside members including Debabrata Saikia, Rakibul Hussain, Pradyut Bordoloi, Bhupen Kumar Bora, Ripun Bora, Paban Singh Ghatowar, Wajid Ali Chaudhary, Rosilina Tirki, Zakir Hussain Sikdar, Pradeep Sarkar, Arun Dutta Majumdar, Pranati Phukan, Rens Nara, Abdul Khalik, Durga Bhumij, Ajit Singh, Nandita Das, Sibamoni Bora, Pradyut Bhuiya, A.K. Rashid Alam, Jadav Swagiyari, Prithvi Majhi, Tonka Bahadur Rai, Praneshwar Basumatary, R.P. Sharma, Ghana Buragohen, Augustin Enghi, Meghnath Chhetri, Balin Kuli, Hafiz Rashid Chaudhary, Medi Alam Bora, Subhaman Ali Sarkar, Gagajyoti Tayegam, and Mousam Barua.
K.C. Venugopal also mentioned that the committee will include special invitees such as the General Secretary (Organization), heads of all frontal organizations, the APCC president, and leaders from SC, OBC, minority, tribal, Congress departments, and the tea garden cell. Assam is set to hold assembly elections later this year, where the BJP, led by Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, will aim to retain its power against Congress.
In a separate communication, K.C. Venugopal confirmed that the Congress president has also approved the appointment of Ravi Sharma as the head of the Farmers' Congress for the Himachal Pradesh Congress Committee.
