Congress Appoints Special Observers for Tamil Nadu Assembly Elections 2026
Congress Strengthens Preparations for Upcoming Elections
In anticipation of the 2026 Tamil Nadu Assembly elections, the Congress party has established a team of special observers. This decision was announced on Wednesday, emphasizing the party's renewed focus on enhancing organizational coordination and outreach across the state. The appointed special observers for Tamil Nadu include Mukul Wasnik, Uttam Kumar Reddy, and Mohammad Nizamuddin. Prior to this, Girish Chodankar had already been designated as the state observer for Tamil Nadu Congress.
According to the announcement, experienced party members have been appointed as special observers to oversee election preparations in various regions. Their responsibilities will include monitoring local unit activities, facilitating communication between state and block-level leadership, and ensuring the effective implementation of the party's election strategy. As the 2026 Tamil Nadu Assembly elections approach, Congress MP Manickam Tagore dismissed speculations about any rifts within the India alliance in the state, asserting that Congress and DMK remain firmly united and committed to their long-term partnership.
Speaking to a media outlet about the alliance's status in Tamil Nadu, Tagore highlighted the political significance of the state and the depth of the Congress-DMK relationship. He stated that Tamil Nadu is a crucial state, and the India alliance, of which Congress is a part and DMK its primary ally, is significant. The two parties have fought eight elections together, as DMK has been a long-term ally of Congress. Addressing reports of differences regarding seat-sharing, Tagore denied any possibility of changes within the alliance but acknowledged the need for timely discussions. He mentioned on Wednesday that he does not foresee any discussions regarding changes among coalition partners, emphasizing that Congress is a long-term ally of DMK. Congress leaders are eager to finalize seat negotiations as soon as possible, as any delays could impact the alliance's image.
Tagore also criticized the BJP's political strategy in Tamil Nadu, accusing it of attempting to weaken regional parties to expand its influence. The Congress MP alleged that the BJP is eager to establish a foothold in Tamil Nadu by attempting to replace the AIADMK, asserting that they aim to befriend constituents and gradually siphon off their votes. This approach is evident in their dealings with the AIADMK in Tamil Nadu.
