The highly anticipated Pathankot–Chakki–Mandi four-lane project is facing backlash due to significant safety concerns.

Commuters using the nearly finished Kandwal–Jasur stretch have reported a lack of essential safety features, such as divider plantations, anti-glare screens, and protective pillars. The absence of these measures leads to dangerous conditions, especially at night when high-beam headlights from oncoming traffic create blinding glare for drivers.

Local residents have expressed frustration, noting that while the project is being expedited, safety protocols are being overlooked. They emphasized that development should encompass not only wider roads but also the assurance of safety while driving. They are calling on the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) and the construction firm to prioritize safety before the onset of monsoon rains further complicates the situation.

Despite MP Dr. Rajeev Bhardwaj’s instructions to hasten the project, nearly two years have elapsed with no completion in sight. Business owners have reported that the extended construction period has adversely affected their operations, while traffic police are struggling to manage the disorganized traffic flow.

As the rainy season approaches after June 15, residents are increasingly anxious about the deteriorating conditions. Their message is straightforward: modern infrastructure must also prioritize safety, ensuring that driving does not feel like navigating through a constant threat.
