Rising LPG Prices Spark Public Concern

Congress leader Akhilesh Prasad Singh expressed his worries on Saturday regarding the recent increase in liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) cylinder prices, stating that this will further deteriorate the financial situation of the common man.

In a conversation with a news agency, Singh remarked, "This is indeed a matter of concern. Inflation is already at a high level, and with these new price hikes, the burden on the public will only increase. The government needs to address this issue and investigate it thoroughly..."

On the other hand, BJP MP Praveen Khandelwal countered in a discussion with a news agency, stating, "According to the price inflation index, this increase is quite minimal... Energy prices are rising globally... It's the opposition's job to create a ruckus."

Meanwhile, the recent hike of ₹60 in domestic LPG cylinder prices has raised alarms among the public, with many expressing concerns about managing their household budgets. Starting from Saturday, March 7, the price of a 14.2 kg domestic cooking gas cylinder has increased by ₹60, while the cost of a 19 kg commercial LPG cylinder has risen by ₹115.

Anita, a resident of Delhi, shared her struggles with the price increase, stating, "Our cylinder doesn't even last a month... Poor people are facing a lot of difficulties... We end up using two cylinders in a month."

Another local voiced concerns about the rising prices, suggesting that this increase in LPG costs signals a forthcoming rise in petrol and diesel prices as well.

They noted, "Today, the price of LPG cylinders has gone up; soon, petrol and diesel prices will also rise. This will impact the common man. According to sources, the price of a 14.2 kg domestic LPG cylinder in Delhi has increased from ₹853 to ₹913. In Mumbai, the new price is now ₹912.50, up from ₹852.50. Kolkata's price has risen from ₹879 to ₹909, while in Chennai, it has gone from ₹868.50 to ₹928.50. These revised rates will take effect immediately."
