Jihadi Elements in Assam
When questioned about the recent arrests of jihadist elements in Assam, Sarma acknowledged that such groups have been active in the state for at least the past decade. He noted that Assam has witnessed jihadist activities over the last ten years, and security remains a significant concern. Sarma expressed confidence that some sleeper cells are still operational in Assam, warning that the state's security will continue to be a matter of concern until there is a substantial improvement in the geopolitical situation.
Drug Trafficking Crackdown
In a recent operation, Chief Minister Sarma announced the arrest of five suspected drug traffickers in the Cachar district, along with the seizure of narcotics valued at two crore rupees. He explained that the drugs were confiscated from two different vehicles in the district. In a post on social media platform X, Sarma stated that the Cachar police intercepted the vehicles on the Sonabarighat bypass and recovered 406 grams of heroin. He praised the Assam police for their swift action, remarking that drug routes in Assam do not extend far, as they are often intercepted.
