Concerns Over NH-27 Completion Timeline Amid Promises from Minister

Skepticism Surrounds NH-27 Opening Date

Haflong, Jan 16: Residents remain doubtful about the January 31 deadline for the Sourashtra-Silchar segment of NH-27, despite assurances from Minister Kaushik Rai.

While there has been notable progress on the Jatinga to Harangajao section, locals express concerns that certain areas, particularly between Miyangkhro and Kapurchera, as well as near Harangajao, require additional time for proper completion and safety measures.

Anonymous sources indicate that while construction is actively ongoing, finishing the remaining tasks by the end of January seems unlikely.

On November 22, Minister Kaushik Rai had previously stated that the long-awaited East-West Corridor would be accessible to the public by January 2026.

This announcement followed a thorough inspection of over 60 kilometers of the corridor, from Balacherra to Mahur, conducted alongside Rajya Sabha MP Kanad Purkayastha and officials from NHIDCL.

Rai pointed out significant advancements in crucial segments, especially the Jatinga-Harangajao stretch, which is nearing its completion.

He mentioned that while two-lane traffic on the new route is set to commence by January 31, 2026, the entire four-lane corridor is anticipated to be finalized by April 2026, heralding a "new phase of growth and enhanced connectivity for the region."
