Following the thrilling IPL match between Royal Challengers Bengaluru and Gujarat Titans on April 24, a case was registered by Cubbon Park Police regarding potential tampering of CCTV cameras. This malfunction impacted critical areas such as ticket scanning gates, outer perimeters, and the D Corporate Stand, which hosts significant spectators, as well as pathways within the stadium. Aditya Bhat, an employee at Staqu Technologies Pvt Ltd in Gurugram, lodged the complaint, stating that two individuals unlawfully accessed the CCTV control room and damaged the equipment. The suspects, identified as Manjunath, 37, from Hiriyur, and Abdul Kalam, 19, from Uttar Pradesh, were both employed by a subcontractor of IVS Digital Solutions, the company responsible for the stadium's digital and CCTV systems.

DCP of Central Bengaluru, Akshay M Hakay, confirmed the incident, explaining that the two subcontractor workers entered the stadium around 11:30 am on April 24 and proceeded to damage the CCTV fiber lines and recording system. Fortunately, the issue was identified and rectified swiftly, with all cameras operational again before the match commenced, ensuring that the game proceeded without disruption. Police have obtained footage showing the suspects entering sensitive areas, including the control room and connection boxes near the parking area.

Motivation Behind the Tampering

Initial investigations suggest that the incident stemmed from a personal grievance. The two men were reportedly frustrated due to unpaid wages totaling approximately ₹10 lakh, despite multiple reminders. They expressed to the police that their actions were a form of protest against the company. A case has been filed under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, including Section 324(4) for intentional property damage. The investigation is ongoing, and further actions are anticipated.

This incident highlights significant shortcomings in the training of Karnataka police to handle such challenges.
