Violence Erupts in Nainital

On Wednesday night, communal unrest occurred in Nainital, Uttarakhand, after the arrest of a 65-year-old Muslim man, Usman, who is accused of raping a 12-year-old girl. This information was reported by a local news source, citing an anonymous police official.

Usman, a contractor, allegedly committed the crime on April 12, enticing the minor with money. A formal complaint was filed on Wednesday night under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act.

In response to the allegations, a group from the Hindu community vandalized businesses owned by Muslims in the vicinity of Usman's workplace.

The mob reportedly hurled stones at a mosque, shouted anti-Pakistan slogans, and damaged multiple vehicles, according to police sources.

Superintendent of Police Crime, Jagdish Chandra, confirmed that the situation was stabilized by 12:30 AM on Thursday. He stated, “We are collecting footage of those involved in the stone-throwing incidents. A significant police presence has been established to prevent any further lawlessness, and strict measures will be enforced against violators.”

Local traders have decided to temporarily close the market in light of the unrest.
