First Level Checking of Voting Machines Begins


Haflong, Jan 3: The First Level Checking (FLC) for Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs) and Voter Verifiable Paper Audit Trails (VVPATs) has officially started in Dima Hasao district as preparations for the 2026 Assam Legislative Assembly elections ramp up.


According to the schedule released by the Chief Electoral Officer's office in Assam, the FLC is taking place from January 2 to January 8 at the designated EVM and VVPAT storage facility near the Additional Court Building in Haflong. This process pertains to the sole Legislative Assembly Constituency in the district, 113-Haflong (ST).


The verification is being conducted with the presence of authorized representatives from recognized national and regional political parties in Dima Hasao, ensuring a transparent pre-election environment. A specialized team of five engineers from the Electronics Corporation of India Limited (ECIL) is overseeing the technical assessment of the machines, with operations scheduled daily from 9 am to 7 pm.


Officials emphasized that the FLC is vital for evaluating the operational integrity and dependability of the EVMs and VVPATs prior to the elections. The entire process is under the supervision of Shaurya Sharma, the Additional District Commissioner of Dima Hasao.


The district election officials reaffirmed their dedication to ensuring free, fair, and transparent elections by strictly following the guidelines set by the Election Commission.
