Commemoration of Mahapurush Sri Sri Madhabdev's 430th Death Anniversary in Jorhat

Jorhat, Sept 1: The 430th death anniversary of Mahapurush Sri Sri Madhabdev was commemorated with great respect at Dhekiakhowa Bor Namghar in Jorhat on Tuesday, attracting devotees from various regions of Assam.
This historic namghar hosted a full-day program that welcomed participants from diverse backgrounds, transcending caste, religion, and community.
The day began with morning prayers, followed by Dihanam, khol performances, naam paath, and the singing of devotional songs inspired by Madhabdev's works.
As part of the observance, the Namghar Management Committee distributed lamps and oil to the attendees. Devotees from across the state participated by offering incense, lighting lamps, and making various offerings as part of their devotional practices.
During the event, Prabin Kalita, the president of the Dhekiakhowa Bor Namghar Management Committee, mentioned that prayers were also dedicated to the safety and recovery of individuals impacted by the recent floods in the state.
“We have prayed for the well-being of those affected by the floods,” Kalita stated.
He further noted that the anniversary was being celebrated through various activities throughout the day.
“Devotees from different communities, religions, and castes have come together to participate in the devotional service. Since the morning prayers, Madhabdev’s timeless creations, including borgeet, dance, naam recitations, and devotional singing, have been ongoing,” Kalita added.
Kalita emphasized that Dhekiakhowa Bor Namghar holds a significant position in Assam’s Vaishnavite tradition. It is believed that Mahapurush Madhabdev himself inaugurated the namghar by lighting a lamp, which adds to its historical and spiritual importance.
