Jorhat, June 6: A commando jawan reportedly took his own life at the Commando Battalion camp located in Kanu Tea Estate, Charaideo district, on Saturday, as per initial police reports.

The individual has been named as Sanatan Das, hailing from Sarbhog. He is believed to have shot himself in the head with a service rifle belonging to a fellow soldier.

Authorities responded promptly to the scene, where they recovered the body and arranged for a post-mortem examination. An inquiry has been initiated to determine the factors that led to this tragic event.

A fellow soldier shared that there were no signs of distress in Das's behavior earlier that day. "Sanatan had his usual morning tea and kept to himself. He preferred solitude during his off-duty hours. While we were engaged in our tasks, we heard a gunshot. Upon rushing to the location, we found him unresponsive," the colleague recounted.

He also mentioned that Das was not in possession of his own firearm at the time of the incident. "We are at a loss as to what could have driven him to this decision," the colleague added.

The police are exploring all possible leads in their investigation.
