Cockroach People's Party Engages in Dialogue with Central Ministers
A delegation from the Cockroach People's Party met with central ministers JP Nadda and Jitendra Singh at the Constitution Club of India on Saturday, completing the third round of discussions. This meeting took place in the wake of ongoing protests related to the NEET-UG paper leak, following the resignation of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan.
After the discussions, the central ministers and the CJP delegation held a joint press conference. Subsequently, the CJP announced the conclusion of their protest at Jantar Mantar.
Key Demands and Government Response
According to Ashutosh Ranka, the national spokesperson for the Cockroach People's Party, three main demands were presented during the protests at Jantar Mantar: the resignation of Dharmendra Pradhan, withdrawal of all legal cases and FIRs against protesters and organizers, and a compensation of ₹1 crore for families who lost loved ones due to the NEET paper issue. With Pradhan's resignation, the first demand has been met.
Chief spokesperson Saurav Das stated that the second demand was for the withdrawal of all FIRs against protesters, not only in Delhi but across all BJP-ruled states. The government has agreed to this demand, assuring that FIRs will be withdrawn soon. They also promised to provide copies of all registered FIRs, which, according to the latest information, numbered between 15 to 20 in Delhi. The government committed to delivering these copies within three to four days.
Compensation and Future Meetings
Ranka emphasized the demand for ₹1 crore compensation for affected families, which the government has accepted, stating that compensation will be provided in accordance with rules and regulations. Additionally, they presented a five-point demand letter to the government, advocating for significant reforms in education and examinations. They plan to meet with the government again in about four weeks to discuss these reforms further. If the government agrees to all demands, they will withdraw their movement.
Government's Commitment to Address Demands
Following the discussions with the Cockroach People's Party delegation, Minister JP Nadda remarked on the extensive dialogue that took place. The delegation presented a written draft outlining four points regarding the cases registered during the protests. They also discussed two additional demands: no punitive actions should be taken, and compensation should be provided while considering their five-point charter.
Nadda further stated that the government empathizes with the situation and assured that compensation will be provided according to regulations, with the maximum possible amount being allocated. He acknowledged the five-point charter related to educational reforms and expressed the government's commitment to seriously consider these reforms in collaboration with the delegation.
