Incident Overview

In the Uttarkashi district, a cloudburst occurred on the Yamunotri National Highway near the Badkot area, specifically between Paligad and Ojri Dabarkot, resulting in eight to nine workers going missing. This information was confirmed by local authorities.

Following the incident, which took place shortly after midnight on Saturday, police, administrative officials, and the State Disaster Response Force, along with other agencies, have initiated rescue and relief operations.


Details of the Missing Workers

According to Deepak Kathet, the officer in charge of the Badkot police station, some workers engaged in road construction were residing in tents at the site. They were swept away by the sudden surge of water caused by the cloudburst.


Reports indicate that eight to nine individuals are missing, prompting the launch of a search operation. These workers are believed to be of Nepali origin.


Impact on Infrastructure

In addition to the area affected by the cloudburst, the Yamunotri Highway is closed at two to three other locations, with the National Highway team working to restore access.


Furthermore, road connectivity has been disrupted near Ojri.


Weather Conditions and Damage Reports

According to the district disaster control office, continuous rainfall has led to a rise in the water level of the Yamuna River. Additionally, the Kupda Kunshala Trikhili motor bridge in Syanachatti is also at risk.


Reports from Kuthnaur indicate that heavy rainfall and the cloudburst have damaged local agricultural land, with debris filling the fields. However, there have been no reports of human or animal casualties in Kuthnaur at this time.
