Close Call at Lucknow Airport: Saudi Airlines Flight Sparks Emergency

Potential Disaster Averted at Chaudhary Charan Singh International Airport
On the morning of June 15, a serious incident was narrowly avoided at Lucknow's Chaudhary Charan Singh International Airport when a Saudi Airlines flight arriving from Jeddah emitted sparks during landing. The aircraft, carrying approximately 250 passengers, experienced this alarming event around 6:30 AM. Footage from the scene clearly showed sparks near the landing gear as the plane touched down, prompting immediate concern among ground staff and officials, who swiftly initiated emergency protocols.
Flight Details and Emergency Response
The flight, designated SV 3112, departed from Jeddah at 10:45 PM the previous night and landed in Lucknow early Sunday morning. Airport officials reported that smoke and sparks were visible from the left wheel immediately after landing. The pilot promptly halted the aircraft and notified air traffic control. Subsequently, the plane was towed to a taxiway where all passengers and crew members were safely disembarked.
Swift Action by Emergency Response Team
The airport's emergency response team arrived on the scene quickly, managing to control the situation within 20 minutes using foam and water. Investigations later revealed that the incident was caused by a sudden hydraulic leak, which led to overheating of the wheel assembly. Officials noted that had this issue occurred during flight, it could have resulted in a catastrophic event. This aircraft was returning from Jeddah after transporting Hajj pilgrims and was scheduled to fly back to Saudi Arabia empty.
Recent Aviation Incidents Raise Concerns
This incident comes just days after a tragic event on June 12, when an Air India flight crashed into a medical college campus in Meghaninagar shortly after taking off from Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport, resulting in the deaths of 241 of the 242 people on board and 29 individuals on the ground.
