Reports indicate that the BSF members suffered injuries to various body parts, while several local protesters were also hurt, although details about their identities and the severity of their injuries remain unclear.
Police from the Kalamchoura station and personnel from the Ashabari BSF Border Outpost arrived to manage the escalating situation.
Background of the Clash
Both sides have filed cases regarding the incident. Senior officials from the BSF have visited the site to assess the situation, and an investigation is underway.
The clash reportedly stemmed from allegations that BSF personnel had detained and assaulted a local youth during a vegetation-clearing operation near the Ashabari Gram Panchayat area.
Villagers claim that Hefzur Rahman, son of Shahajan Mia, was taken into custody around 10 am while clearing vegetation along the market road and was subsequently assaulted, resulting in a leg fracture.
In response to the alleged assault, villagers blocked the Ashabari-Rahimpur road near Natun Bazar, demanding accountability for the BSF personnel involved. This led to the confrontation with the BSF vehicle.
The circumstances surrounding Rahman’s detention and the subsequent clash are currently under investigation.
