Incident Overview

On Thursday, a confrontation occurred in the forests of Kandhamal district, Odisha, resulting in injuries to an officer of the Special Operations Group (SOG). According to police reports, the clash took place in the Indragarh forest area, close to the border of Ganjam district.


Injuries and Medical Response

The injured officer, identified as Commandant Prem Singh Majhi, was initially admitted to the sub-divisional hospital in Bhawanipatna before being transferred to MKCG Medical College and Hospital. His condition is currently reported as stable.


Details of the Operation

Harish BC, the Superintendent of Police for Kandhamal, stated that the SOG initiated a search operation after receiving credible intelligence about a group of approximately 15 Maoists gathering in the forest. During this operation, the exchange of gunfire occurred, leading to the injury of the SOG commandant.


The SP also mentioned that some Maoists might have sustained injuries, although this has yet to be confirmed. The search efforts in the area have been intensified, with additional forces deployed.
