CJP Urges Sonam Wangchuk to End Hunger Strike Amid Examination Justice Movement

New Delhi, Jul 22: On Wednesday, the Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) reached out to activist Sonam Wangchuk, urging him to conclude his hunger strike. They expressed that his dedication has motivated students nationwide and reassured him that their protest regarding alleged examination irregularities would persist until their objectives are achieved.
In a public letter directed to Wangchuk, the CJP emphasized the importance of his health while committing to advance the campaign for "examination justice."
"We hold immense respect and gratitude for you, and we kindly ask you to end your fast. Your sacrifice has inspired countless students across the nation," the letter stated.
The organization also guaranteed Wangchuk that their agitation would carry on, regardless of his choice regarding the fast.
"We assure you that our struggle will not conclude with your fast. We will persist with the protests and continue this fight until our demands for examination justice are fulfilled. We will do everything possible to keep this movement alive," the letter affirmed.
Wangchuk has been on an indefinite hunger strike for 25 days, advocating for students seeking accountability over alleged examination irregularities.
Highlighting the "Sansad Chalo" mobilization on July 20, the CJP noted that students from various states had converged in Delhi to support the cause.
"You have demonstrated that this struggle transcends any individual and that students deserve justice. However, we need you to prioritize your health at this moment," it added.
CJP founder Abhijeet Dipke reiterated this appeal through a social media post, stating, "We urge Sonam Wangchuk to end his hunger strike. His life is invaluable, and the nation needs him. The peaceful protest at Jantar Mantar will persist until our demands are met," he remarked.
In another post, Dipke highlighted that Wangchuk's fast had reached its 25th day and questioned Prime Minister Narendra Modi's silence on the matter.
"Politics involves more than just election rallies and victories; it requires accountability and responsiveness to the public," he stated, questioning why Modi had not contacted Wangchuk.
He also criticized the police's harsh actions against protesting students and questioned why Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan remained in office amid the controversy surrounding alleged examination irregularities.
Wangchuk joined the CJP-led protest at Jantar Mantar on June 28 and initiated an indefinite hunger strike to support students demanding accountability for alleged irregularities in competitive examinations, reforms in the examination system, and the resignation of Union Education Minister Pradhan.
Following a Delhi High Court order, he was transferred from Safdarjung Hospital to Medanta Hospital, where he has continued his fast, while the sit-in protest at Jantar Mantar has persisted after Monday's police crackdown on the planned "Sansad Chalo" march.
