CJP Leaders Saurabh Das and Ashutosh Ranka Granted Bail and Released from Tihar Jail

Saurabh Das and Ashutosh Ranka, leaders of the Cockroach People's Party, have been granted bail and released from Tihar Jail after their arrest during a protest at Jantar Mantar. Their release follows a withdrawal of their petition in the Delhi High Court, which challenged the extension of their judicial custody. The magistrate accepted their personal release bond, allowing their freedom unless they are wanted in other cases. The leaders were initially detained for attempting to organize a protest against the Chief Election Commissioner, which authorities deemed unauthorized.

Release of CJP Leaders

In New Delhi, the Special Executive Magistrate has ordered the release of Saurabh Das and Ashutosh Ranka, co-conveners of the Cockroach People's Party (CJP), from judicial custody. The two leaders had been incarcerated in Tihar Jail following a protest at Jantar Mantar on October 14.

This ruling came just hours after the Delhi High Court saw the leaders withdraw their petition challenging the extension of their judicial custody.

According to the release order for Saurabh Das, his personal release bond has been accepted, allowing for his release from Tihar Jail unless he is wanted in any other case.

Arrest Following Protest at Jantar Mantar

The two leaders were detained while attempting to organize a 'Tiranga Protest' against Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar on October 14. Authorities stated that the protest was unauthorized and that the leaders had violated the conditions of a peace bond.

Previously, on October 10, both were taken into custody at the airport and released on a peace bond of ₹50,000. However, after their attempt to protest again on October 14, they were placed in judicial custody for five days, which was later extended by two days on October 19.

Withdrawal of Petition from High Court
During a hearing at the Delhi High Court on Wednesday, Justice Subramaniam Prasad questioned the petitioners about why they approached the High Court without waiting for the magistrate's order. Following the court's advice, the leaders withdrew their petition, leading to the magistrate court completing the bail and bond process, thus facilitating their release.
