CJP's Response to Recent Arrests
Shortly after the 'Cockroach People's Party' withdrew its nationwide protests, reports have emerged of numerous protesters being detained and arrested across India. In response, the CJP has issued a statement demanding guarantees from the government, particularly from central ministers JP Nadda and Jitendra Singh. Spokesperson Saurav Das stated that the CJP had only decided to retract its protests after receiving assurances from the Indian government that no punitive actions would be taken against any protesters in BJP or NDA-ruled states, either now or in the future. Therefore, the reports coming from these states are a matter of serious concern.
CJP's Key Demands
CJP's primary demand from the government was that no FIRs be filed against the protesters involved in the movement. The statement further urged the Indian government, especially JP Nadda and Jitendra Singh, to promptly adhere to the assurances given. They called for the release of those detained and instructed that no repressive or retaliatory actions be taken against any protesters across the country. Additionally, any filed FIRs should be withdrawn.
The online organization has also requested a written assurance regarding the withdrawal of FIRs and the release of all detained individuals. The CJP had retracted its nationwide protest on Saturday, July 25, following the resignation of Dharmendra Pradhan and the government's commitment to fulfilling their demands. According to the organization, all these demands were accepted, leading to the withdrawal of the protests. However, just hours later, reports began surfacing on social media about protesters being detained in Bihar, West Bengal, and other states.
Significant Case of Mohammad Junaid
One notable case involved Mohammad Junaid, a volunteer from CJP residing in Ghaziabad. Reports indicate that after a police search of his home, Junaid's father was taken into custody. Speaking to the media, Mohammad Junaid revealed that the UP police took family members during a raid at their home the day before the CJP's protest was canceled, seizing their bank passbook and PAN card.
