Clarification from Chief Justice Surya Kant

New Delhi: On Saturday, Chief Justice of India Surya Kant expressed his disappointment regarding media interpretations of his recent comments, which included the term 'parasites'. He clarified that he felt 'pained' by reports suggesting he was criticizing the youth.

In his statement, CJI Kant remarked, "I am distressed to see how certain media outlets have misrepresented my comments made during the hearing of a trivial case yesterday."

He clarified that his statements were aimed at individuals who enter the legal field using 'fake and bogus degrees', asserting that these remarks were misrepresented by some media sources.

This clarification comes in light of a controversy that arose during a hearing on Friday, where he used terms like 'parasites' and 'cockroaches' while addressing a lawyer's request for senior designation.

CJI Kant stated, "My criticism was directed at those who have infiltrated professions such as the Bar with fraudulent qualifications. Similar individuals have also entered the media and other esteemed professions, thus earning the label of parasites."

He further emphasized, "It is entirely unfounded to claim that I criticized the youth of our country. I take immense pride in our current and future generations, and every young person in India motivates me. It is not an exaggeration to say that Indian youth hold me in high esteem, and I view them as the foundation of a prosperous India."
