Civil Aviation Ministry Tightens Fare Limits Amid IndiGo Flight Cancellations

New Fare Regulations Implemented

On Saturday, the Ministry of Civil Aviation announced stricter maximum fare limits for all domestic economy class flights. Officials indicated that this decision was essential due to the operational challenges faced by IndiGo, which has resulted in numerous flight cancellations and reduced capacity over several days, impacting passenger safety. The new fare limits will be enforced immediately based on flight distance.


Instructions for Baggage Delivery

The Ministry of Civil Aviation (MoCA) has mandated IndiGo to locate and deliver all baggage belonging to passengers affected by flight cancellations or delays within the next 48 hours. Union Civil Aviation Minister Ram Mohan Naidu Kinjirapu has also instructed the airline to process all pending refunds for disrupted or canceled flights by 8 PM on December 7. Furthermore, the ministry has directed IndiGo not to charge any rescheduling fees to affected passengers and to establish a dedicated support and refund facility to assist them. Airlines are required to maintain clear communication regarding baggage tracking and delivery, and to provide compensation where applicable. The Ministry emphasized the need for robust monitoring to ensure smooth services for senior citizens, individuals with disabilities, students, and those traveling for urgent medical reasons while efforts to restore full operational normalcy continue.


IndiGo Waives Cancellation and Rescheduling Fees

As the crisis escalated, IndiGo announced a complete waiver of cancellation and rescheduling fees for travel between December 5 and December 15, 2025. The airline stated that refunds would be automatically processed back to the original payment method, requiring no action from passengers. This measure aims to provide 'maximum flexibility' during ongoing disruptions.
