CID Pursues Former Aide of Abhishek Banerjee in Land Fraud Investigation

CID Team Searches for Sumit Roy Following Court Ruling

Kolkata: Following the Calcutta High Court's denial of anticipatory bail to Sumit Roy, a former aide of Trinamool Congress MP Abhishek Banerjee, in a government land fraud case, a team from the CID visited his residence on Tuesday armed with an arrest warrant. This was confirmed by a senior official involved in the investigation.

The CID team was supported by personnel from the Behala Police Station during their search for Roy at his home. According to the official, the officers, including female personnel, conducted a thorough search, even checking the terrace, but were unable to locate him.

On Monday, Roy had successfully obtained anticipatory bail from the Calcutta High Court concerning a job fraud case in Debra, located in the Paschim Medinipur district. However, his plea for anticipatory bail in the Salboni land fraud case, which involves allegations of selling government land using forged documents, was rejected.

Investigators have indicated that the Salboni case revolves around the alleged creation of fake records to facilitate the illicit sale of government land. Recently, the investigations into both the Debra job fraud and the Salboni land fraud cases were transferred from the district police to the CID.

A senior officer from the CID stated, "We are acting in strict compliance with the court's directives and legal provisions. Our efforts to locate the accused are ongoing, and the investigation continues."
